This probably comes as a surprise to nobody considering the success of the Guitar Hero series, which was just a different take on Konami’s GuitarFreaks franchise. Now it appears that they are likely attempting their own spin on one of Konami’s other successful music franchises, Beatmania. Is it just me or is Activision becoming the next EA? Their games come out way too often, don’t seem to be making huge improvements, and they’re just expanding way too fast into every aspect of gaming.

Looks like a very shitty ripoff of Beatmania IIDX.

Oh, that is (an old version of) Beatmania. Is there any more info about DJ Hero or are you just speculating?

No, Activision filed to trademark the name...and there is a 99% chance it will be very similar to Beatmania.

99% chance? Who gave you those statistics?

Common sense? What do you think it will be? We have Guitar Hero that is a very similar game to GuitarFreaks, then they attempt to trademark DJ Hero (similar naming convention to Guitar Hero, indicating similar gameplay most likely), so I really don’t see why this is such a shock to you.

I’ve played a DJ game (by Sega I think) which was nothing like Beatmania. It had two turntables and a slider. What if DJ Hero is more like that game? I think that is more like being a DJ than Beatmania is, frankly.
Guitar Hero was similar to Guitar Freaks but not a direct ripoff. Plus there’s only so many ways you can emulate a guitar.

Fair enough, but I still think this will be like Beatmania. Only time will tell and I wouldn’t say that it’s an unfair comparison at this point in the game.
