At the Game Developers Conference, Portal project lead Kim Swift brought up the fact that a full sequel to Portal was recently announced. The only problem? A sequel hasn’t been announced. She was under the impression that Doug Lombardi already revealed it, when in actuality he made a vague statement about more Portal coming in one form or another. So did Kim just accidentally slip the official word that a new Portal is on its way, or did she just confuse Doug’s original words? Considering Kim was such a huge part of the original Portal, I highly doubt that she made a mistake here. Either way we’re getting more Portal, and I’m pretty excited at the possibility of a real sequel rather than a small expansion pack of new puzzles. The community can provide us with those. The only question I have is what do they plan on doing without GLaDOS, or will she make a return? GLaDOS was a large part of Portal’s appeal and I can’t imagine the game without her.

Seeing as only one physical manifestation of GLaDOS was destroyed during the first one (I take it all the eyes in the warehouse at the end were GLaDOS parts [/spoiler]), then I don’t see why she wouldn’t be back in the second. Overlooking the fact that it would take alot of explaining, of course.
I just hope they have an easier puzzle creator tool (i.e. NOT Source SDK) and a better way to sort and access them, rather than typing in the name in console.
But no matter what happens, I don’t think I’m ever gonna stop giving Valve money. Hurrah for them.

You don’t have to type the name in the console...you just import it via the built in tool then it appears in a list…
However, the puzzle creation isn’t going to get any easier...I can tell you that. And yes, Valve is awesome.

Was this in an update? Cause last time I played a custom map on Portal there was no option for it. I had to launch it from console.

The import option was there from the start. If you downloaded those maps I posted on here a few days ago, the text file that came with it also mentioned the feature.
Portal was a decent game but I’m not sure if it’s sequel material. Seems like one of those games that you really don’t want a sequel for. Well I guess if there is a demand for a sequel then there is certainly nothing wrong with giving in to the demand.

Since the game was so short there is definitely demand. Plus I think there are a lot of things they could do with a sequel. I think it will be great.

I don’t know. From what little story there was I felt alot of closure. The only thing I could see fitting is integrating Portal in HL2 EP3.
